Home In The Country Is Perfect For Viewing Meteor Showers

December 27, 2010

One of our favorite ways to enjoy a beautiful clear night sky is watching meteor showers. Just a few days before Christmas on a cold, clear night (the best for stargazing!) we went outside about 11pm, even though the best viewing was supposed to be midnight to 6am.

This was a particularly good show, and being an hour early didn’t disappoint.

We dressed warm and just laid down on the driveway looking up.

A few days later there was a lunar eclipse; unfortunately, like much of the country we missed that one but we did watch a lunar eclipse a few years ago.

We have had many enjoyable stargazing, meteor shower viewing nights with just our family or with friends over the years. The view out in the country without all of the light pollution is something you have to see for yourself.

Side note: quite a few years ago there was a rare display of northern lights, not usually seen this far south; we spent hours outside taking it all in. Most city dwellers went to be in blissful ignorance of the once in a lifetime experience difficult to imagine for most.
