We are not deer hunters but we do enjoy antler hunting on our 87 acre wildlife paradise and it’s just about that time of year again.
What I saw today was encouraging but also a hint that it’s not quite time to go hiking through the woods yet, at least not expecting to find discarded antlers.
(Later this Spring will be morel mushroom hunting season.)
What does this mean for you?
We have found that we need to move, far, far, away. So our beautiful custom home is for sale; either with just 10 acres, or, with all 87 acres. Your choice.
Where we are going is far South and there are LOTS of deer there too, but the deer down south are SCRAWNY, not plump and pretty like the ones you see on this page.
Looking out the kitchen window this afternoon I saw the backyard filled with deer roaming around, munching on grass and just in general making their afternoon rounds through.
This big guy pictured at left, with his nice set of antlers, was prominent in the pack. But just a little bit later on I saw another buck with a medium size set and another guy obviously a bit younger, with a small set of antlers.
Guys, just drop them where you stand. It will make it easier for me to find and have matched sets besides!
Kidding aside, antler hunting in March is one of my favorite things to do on this acreage and something I will miss every year from now on. It’s a great time for a hike to go exploring and pick up a neat rock, an antler or take some awesome photos.
